The ancients said: “Action is like a mountain; vow, an ocean.” Actions and vows are two wings of a bird. Everyday, after affirming our vows with prostration, we should take steps to fulfill them in our daily life—for vows guide actions; actions fulfill our vows.

English

Jack loved basketball. On the court, he often shouted, “I’m going to be the star of the team!”
But he hated practicing the basics. His layups were shaky, his shots were crooked, and his stamina ran out quickly.

One day, during a school match, the coach unexpectedly let him start. The bleachers were full of students. Jack imagined himself scoring the winning shot.
But reality was harsh. Within minutes, he lost the ball several times, giving away points. By halftime, he was gasping for air, his legs heavy as lead. Finally, the coach substituted him out. Jack sat on the bench, face burning with shame.

The team lost. Jack felt miserable.
The coach patted his shoulder and said, “You want to be a star—that’s your vow. But without action, how can you succeed? A vow without action is like a basketball hoop without a rim—you can never score.”

From that day on, Jack changed. Before dawn, he ran laps on the court. After school, he practiced shots again and again until his arms ached. Even when the ball bounced off the rim, he refused to quit.
“A vow is the sea, giving me direction. Action is the mountain, keeping me steady.” That became his inner motto.

At the next game, he was sent in again. This time, he caught passes firmly, dribbled calmly, and defended steadily. In the final minute, he scored, and the crowd erupted in cheers.
Looking at the hoop, Jack felt more grounded than ever: “True victory isn’t just a dream. It comes when vow and action go hand in hand.”
