Causes of Texas Revolution:
Texas Revolution fight between October 1835 — April 1836
Important dates:
- August 24, 1821 — Mexico Independence
- 1823 & 1824 — Mexico government passed Colonizations Laws to hire empresarios to bring settlers to Texas
- October 1835 & April 1836 — Texas Revolution
- Cultural Differences
- Mexican Government: expect settlers to speak Spanish + follow the Catholic faith
- American Settlers: resent with what they had agreed to do, do business with English instead of Spanish + continued own belief “Protestant”
- Differences over Slavery
- Mexican Government: do not support slavery
- American Settlers: slavery
- Self-Government in Texas(Texas practices self-government, such as learning to get along with other colonies independently and managing own affairs while Mexico was busy dealing with their own troubles)
- A History of United States Expansion(US settlers had a deep belief that the US should continue to expand into new territories)
- The Law of April 6, 1830(stopped immigration from the United States. Canceled almost all of the empresario contracts)
