Explanatory Essay
- A short piece of writing that explains a particular topic.
- Purpose: to inform readers about a topic of interest
** Make a plan and gather ideas and information **
- What is your purpose?
- Who is your audience?
- Formal or informal?
(Keep in mind that a writer uses a formal tone when the topic of the writing is more serious. A formal tone does not include contractions and is written more academically. An informal tone is not as serious.)
