Story 3: I Didn’t Win the Art Contest

畫室裡，陽光斜斜地灑在桌上。小芸盯著掛在牆上的得獎作品，手指緊緊抓著自己的畫紙。她的畫沒被選上。
得獎的是小樺，一幅以水墨描繪的古城夜景，墨韻深遠，燈火迷人。老師說這幅畫「有靈魂」。
「她不就學國畫比較久嗎？」小芸咬著唇，心裡很不是滋味。她原本也以為自己畫得不錯。
正想收拾離開時，小樺走過來，手裡拿著一顆包裝精緻的點心。「我看到你畫那隻企鵝，好可愛，好有表情，我喜歡極了。」
小芸一愣，沒想到得獎的人會來稱讚她。她低頭看看自己的畫，那隻用蠟筆畫出的企鵝站在冰山邊，雖然簡單，卻像有生命。
她抬頭說：「你的畫真的好厲害，好像能把人帶進故事裡。你以後可以教我畫水墨嗎？」
小樺點點頭：「我們可以一起畫呀！」
小芸笑了，心裡那一點酸意，悄悄變成了暖暖的光。

In the art room, sunlight slanted across the desks. Xiaoyun stared at the winning painting on the wall, her fingers gripping her sketchpad. Her drawing hadn’t been chosen.
The winner was Xiaohua, with a Chinese ink painting of an ancient city at night—shadows flowing like water, lanterns glowing softly. The teacher said the artwork “had soul.”
“She just studied ink painting longer,” Xiaoyun muttered, biting her lip. She thought her own piece was pretty good too.
Just as she was about to pack up, Xiaohua walked over, holding a delicately wrapped snack. “I saw your penguin—it’s adorable and full of expression. I really liked it.”
Xiaoyun blinked, surprised the winner had come to compliment her. She glanced down at her drawing—the crayon penguin standing on an iceberg, simple yet somehow alive.
She looked up and said, “Your painting is amazing—it feels like it pulls people into a story. Could you teach me how to paint with ink someday?”
Xiaohua nodded. “Let’s paint together sometime!”
Xiaoyun smiled. That little sting in her heart quietly turned into a gentle glow.
