故事4 :跑步比賽的意外
Story 2: The Race Day Slip
體育課跑步比賽,小芸一直在第一名。她感覺風從耳邊呼嘯而過,腳步輕盈得像踩在雲上。
During the P.E. class race, Xiaoyun stayed in first place. She felt the wind whistling past her ears, her steps as light as if she were running on clouds.
就在終點線前,她聽見後面傳來同學的腳步聲,心裡忽然冒出一句:「我一定要贏!」
Just before the finish line, she heard footsteps behind her, and a thought popped up: “I must win!”
這股念頭一升起,她加快速度,可卻踩到一塊小石子,差點摔倒。
As soon as the thought arose, she sped up, but stepped on a small stone and almost fell.
幸好她穩住身體,但也因此只拿到第三名。
Luckily, she regained her balance, but ended up finishing in third place.
回到座位,她的心還在不甘。
Back in her seat, she still felt unwilling to accept the result.
忽然想起佛學課老師說的:「當煩惱一起,要快快察覺,轉過來,心才會安定清明。」
She suddenly remembered what the Buddhist studies teacher said: “When trouble arises, notice it quickly, turn it around, and your mind will remain calm and clear.”
小芸想了想,剛剛如果她不是急著爭第一,而是平穩跑完,也許結果不同;但更重要的,是她在「貪」的當下,已經失去了定力。
Xiaoyun thought: if she hadn’t rushed to fight for first place and had just run steadily, the result might have been different. More importantly, in that moment of greed, she had already lost her calm.
她決定下次跑步時,不去想輸贏,只專注在每一步呼吸。
She decided that next time she ran, she wouldn’t think about winning or losing, but focus on each step and breath.

聽見腳步靠近時,把注意力放回腳掌觸地與呼吸的節奏。
When footsteps close in, return attention to footfalls and breathing rhythm.
