Without deeply rooted faith, we will easily lose our bodhisattva resolve and the will to attain the Way whenever we encounter external influences.

Xiao Hui loved painting. Every time she painted, she filled the paper with bright, colorful strokes.

一天，老師看了她的畫，說：「你的顏色太亂了，不夠整齊！」
One day, her teacher looked at her painting and said, “Your colors are too messy. They aren’t neat enough!”
小慧的心像火山一樣冒煙，她忍不住生氣。
Xiao Hui felt like a volcano erupting inside her heart. She couldn’t help but get angry.

她差點把畫紙揉成一團，怒氣像熔岩般奔流。
She almost crumpled her painting. Her anger flowed like lava.
這時，她想到媽媽說過的一句話：「心裡的火，不是要壓下去，而是要看清它，用智慧和慈悲澆熄它。」
Then she remembered what her mom had said, “The fire in your heart isn’t meant to be suppressed. See it clearly, and cool it with wisdom and compassion.”

小慧深吸一口氣，停下手，看著畫紙。
Xiao Hui took a deep breath, paused, and looked at her painting.
她問自己：
She asked herself:
「老師是想傷我，還是給我建議？」
“Did my teacher want to hurt me, or give advice?”「我喜歡畫畫的心，真的會因為這句話熄滅嗎？」
“Will my love for painting really disappear because of these words?”

慢慢地，怒氣像熔岩冷卻，小慧重新拿起畫筆。
Slowly, her anger cooled like lava. Xiao Hui picked up her brush again.
她仔細看顏色的搭配，但仍保留最喜歡的五彩繽紛。
She carefully adjusted her colors, but kept her favorite bright, colorful strokes.

課後，她把畫展示在班上，同學和老師都點頭稱讚。
After class, she displayed her painting. Her classmates and teacher nodded in admiration.
小慧心裡明白：
Xiao Hui understood in her heart:
「用智慧觀察，用慈悲看待自己和別人，我的心就能像大樹一樣穩固，風吹不動。」
“With wisdom and compassion, my heart can be as strong as a tree, unshaken by the wind.”
