Story 2: The Lifeguard Who Couldn’t Swim
English
The summer beach was bustling—children building sandcastles, waves crashing against the shore. Ming wore a bright red lifeguard cap with a whistle around his neck. “I just love helping people!” he declared proudly. “All you need is the will to save!”
Suddenly, a boy was swept into the deep, waving desperately for help. Ming dashed into the sea, but the water was freezing and the waves were strong. Within seconds, he was also struggling, gasping, “Help!”
Another trained lifeguard dove in, skillfully pulling both to shore. Ming sat shivering, his face burning with shame.
He thought: “Goodwill alone isn’t enough. I must train myself first—otherwise I endanger others and myself.”
Reflection Questions:
👉 What happens when someone has good intentions but lacks ability?
👉 If you were Ming, how would you prepare yourself better?
