The ancients said: “Action is like a mountain; vow, an ocean.” Actions and vows are two wings of a bird. Everyday, after affirming our vows with prostration, we should take steps to fulfill them in our daily life—for vows guide actions; actions fulfill our vows.

English
Andy loved science class and dreamed of winning the school science fair.
But his habit was to dream a lot and act little. His notebook was full of “cool inventions,” yet he hardly ever built anything.
One year, when the school announced a big science fair, he signed up right away.
But even two weeks before the fair, he hadn’t started. He rushed to throw something together, but it looked sloppy, and his experiment failed. On the day of the fair, he stammered in front of the judges, embarrassed. He won nothing.
At home, he hid in his room, feeling ashamed.
His teacher told him, “You have big dreams, but lack action. A vow is the sea—it gives you direction. Action is the mountain—it gives you strength. A vow without action is like an empty castle: grand in appearance, but no one lives inside.”
Andy stayed quiet for a long time, then resolved to change.
The next year, when the fair was announced, he immediately began working: researching, gathering materials, and testing. His experiments failed again and again, but he carefully recorded and adjusted. Even when discouraged, he told himself, “My action must be steady like the mountain.”
At the fair, his project wasn’t the flashiest, but it worked smoothly, and he explained it clearly. The judges nodded in approval, awarding him a prize.
He smiled, realizing: “True power comes when vow and action move forward together.”
